MESCHED CARPET (cotton warp and weft, wool velvet), Northeast Persia, circa 1900 - 1920. H_319 cm L_232 cm The carpet is adorned with a large navy blue polylobé central medallion with a herati pattern (this pattern is composed of a diamond formed of curved stems, which contains a rosette and is surmounted by a palmette at each top, repeated infinitely, with four falciform leaves each time next to each other. This drawing adorned the Herat Carpets (to which it owes its name), extended by four pendants on an old plain pink background. The entire composition is decorated with four spandrels. A wide navy blue border with garlands of stylized polychrome flowers is framed by four contraborders (wear, old restorations, abrasions and damaged ends).
