KAZAK CARPET (woolen warp, weft and velvet),... - Lot 302 - Pierre Bergé & Associés
KAZAK CARPET (woolen warp, weft and velvet), Caucasus, circa 1920-1930. H_187 cm W_115 m "The Caucasus, despite the diversity of its population, has always shown an astonishing unity of style in its carpets. The colours are clear and frank, the decorations are assertive and lean towards pure geometries. Behind this unity, we can guess two influences that were not only cultural: that of Ottoman Turkey, which controlled the western and central parts, and that of Persia of the Sephardic (1501-1722), which once owned all of Azerbaijan." The carpet is decorated with three polychrome rhombuses on a plain blue background dotted with animals and geometric motifs. An ivory border with a garland of flowers is framed by numerous counter-edges. Wear, accidents, effrancy and damaged edges.
