This work is registered in the artist's archives under number 960002 "Des années 1950, il est a la recherche de thèmes ou formes et couleurs se mettent en place. He sometimes works on four gouaches simultaneously to find what he calls absolute silence, which could be defined as a kind of quietude where the composition offers a state of balance; a harmony that is the opposite of cacophony. Having a better understanding of his approach to the construction of a set of colours, he can turn to his major concern about how to paint with a palette reduced to seven tones, as all gypsy music expresses the feverish spirit from three chords. He uses two blues, two reds and one green. Black and white are used outside the rainbow spectrum. This will allow him to invent shades in the camaieux or to build compositions that use one or two colours, but also has the effect that an underlayer gives on the colour that covers it".
Alexis Poliakoff "It should not be forgotten that each shape has two colours: one inside and one outside. Thus the egg, which is white on the outside but yellow on the inside.
And the same goes for everything. I'm really in my own cosmos."
