General map of the theatre of war in Italy and in the Alps from the passage of the Var to the entrance of the French in Rome. Paris, with the author, undated[1802]. Two parts in an in-plane volume of two engraved titles and 54 long-grain green half-marrows, smooth back decorated (modern binding). Original edition. Bacler d'Albe is considered as one of the best cartographers of his time Gunner as Bonaparte at the headquarters of Toulon in 1793, he is one of the oldest companions of the emperor. He remained Chief of Napoleon's personal topographic cabinet from 1799 to 1814, and was one of the few names mentioned in the Emperor's will written on St Helena in 1821. "Bacler d'Albe, Deputy Warrant Officer Major of the Italian Army Artillery Park, served in Nice in 1794 and 1795 and in Italy in 1796 as a geographer and draftsman officer... Bonaparte... asked him to lift the plans of the coast from Nice to Savona and to give courses of tracing fortifications In 1797 he began drawing a map of the Peninsula which he took the engraving on his own" (Tulard) His General Map of the theatre of war in Italy and in the Alps is one of the first homogeneous maps of the peninsula.
