[FONTAINE, Pierre-François-Léonard & PERCIER, Charles].
The Rite of H.M. the Emperor Napoleon, in the Metropolitan Church of Paris, on the 11th of February, Year XIII, Sunday, December 2, 1804. Paris, imperial printing house,[circa 1804]. In-plano (645 x 475 mm) of 40 engraved plates with title, 56 pp., 42 ff.n.ch. Marbled cardboard (binding of the time). Original edition. This very beautiful work, which was curiously not distributed during the Empire, was placed in escrow at the fall of Napoleon and it was not until 1822 that it was offered to a few selected personalities. It includes, written by Étienne Aignan, who under the Empire would become assistant to the ceremonies, a description of the costumes worn on the day of the coronation and the epigraphic mottos decorating the dining room and designed by the archaeologist Petit Radel, then historian of the city of Paris. The famous 40 plates, made by various artists, including Auguste Delvaux or Jean-Baptiste Simonet, are mainly engraved after drawings by Isabey, Percier and Fontaine. Freckles; renewed back in tawny sorrow. Origin: Napoleon III (ex-libris with crowned N number).
