[FIRST CONSUL]. The Judgment of Numa, a dramatic action performed at the Teatro de la Scala in Milan, on 26 June 1803, Year 2, for the celebration of the annual national holiday ordered by decree of the State Consultant. [Il Giudizio di Numa, azione drammatica da rappresentarsi nel Teatro alla Scala in Milano...] Milan, Printing and Foundry of Typographical Engineering, undated[1803]. In-4 (273 x 217 mm) of 32 ff.n.ch. and 8 pp.ch. Blue fault, foliage frame with a light decoration of silver sequins and in the centre, attributes of justice surrounded by a wreath of laurel and oak, all embroidered with gold thread (soft binding of the time). Original edition. Program printed in Italian and French, of a special piece composed to the glory of Bonaparte, First Consul, with an anonymous text and music by Vincent Federici. The argument features Numa (Bonaparte in the guise of the legendary king of Rome), Alexander, Caesar, but also the famous General Desaix, one of the winners of the battle of Marengo. Preceded by the list of all participants (actors, musicians, machinists, tailors, ballet directors, dancers, extras, set designers) the text is followed by Trois odes à la gloire de Marengo, de Savioli, Monti and Lamberti. Very elegant soft blue silk binding, embroidered with white, gold and silver threads. The copies thus bound and printed on strong paper were intended for the important figures of the Consulate. Some missing embroidery on the upper plate, but still perfectly preserved. Origin: Charles V.D. Elst (ex-libris).
