Silver brooch made of intertwined tubular motifs forming a " - Lot 2
Silver brooch made of intertwined tubular motifs forming a "love knot", engraved with stylised foliage and inlaid with grey agate. Tartan work from the end of the 19th century. L_6 cm Gross weight: 20 g. (accidents) Coming from an aristocratic case. This type of jewellery commonly called "pebble jewellery" belongs to the Scottish sentimental jewellery of the 19th century. At that time, Queen Victoria herself used to fetch stones from the streams to make jewellery. The motifs are taken from the Scottish medieval imagination, highly prized by the Romantics to represent themes such as fidelity, eternal love and commitment.
