SUITE OF THIRTY-EIGHT CAMES in oval shape in two layers of sardonyx (white on black background) representing the profiles of the French academicians, all signed on the G. LEMAIRE background, one on the edge of the bust (n°32), bevelled edges. 19th century, Georges-Henri Lemaire, 1889 Height: from 3.5 to 4.2 cm - Width: from 2.8 to 3.3 cm (small gashes on the edge on some) Georges-Henri Lemaire (1853-1914) Georges-Henri Lemaire (1853-1914) said Georges Lemaire is a talented sculptor and engraver on fine stones. He was a pupil of M.J. Perrin and a member of the Salon des artistes Français since 1887. He exhibited his works on numerous occasions at exhibitions and shows and received several distinctions including the Legion of Honour. In 1889, during the Universal Exhibition held in Paris, he presented this series of 40 portraits of French academicians, unique in the art of glyptics and received a silver medal on this occasion.
