In-folio (281 x 180 mm) of 7 ff.n.ch., engraved portrait of the author, 386 pp., 8 ff.n.ch., 475 pp.; red morocco, triple gilt fillet framing, spine with ornamented nerves, roulette on the cuts, gilt edges on marbling (late 17th century French binding). First edition of the works of Francis Bacon. It contains the famous utopia Nova Atlantis, often regarded as the basis for the founding of the American society. Each piece is complete with its individual printed title. It is found there: Historia Regni Henri Septimi; Sermones fideles; De Sapientia Veterum; Dialogus de Bello Sacro; Tractatus de Dignitate & augmentis Scientiarum; Historia Naturalis et Experimentalis ad condendam Philosophiam; Historia Vitae & Mortis. Some brown notebooks; discreet restorations on the spine. Nice copy.
