London, 1796. 2 volumes in-8 (201 x 212 mm) of an engraved frontispiece, 415 pp. (including false title and title), 7 copper-engraved plates for volume I; one engraved frontispiece, 2 ff.n.ch., 398 pp., 6 engraved plates for volume II; red morocco, double decorative gilt roulette frame, smooth ornamented spine, roulette on cups and inside, blue silk lining and endpapers, gilt edges (contemporary binding). One of the most beautiful illustrated editions of the Dangerous Liaisons. Printed on a beautiful vellum paper it is decorated with the 2 frontispices and 13 plates engraved by Baquoy, Duplessi-Bertaux, Dupréel, Godefroy, Langlois, Lemire, Lingée, Masquelier, Patas, Pauquet, Simonet and Trière after the drawings of Monnet, mademoiselle Gérard and Fragonard fils. "Monnet's plates dominate the first volume, Mlle. Gérard's the second... These striking plates form the outstanding contemporary interpretation of Les Liasons dangereuses.
