Memoirs of Madame de Warens, followed by those of Claude Anet... To serve as Apology to the confessions of J.J. Rousseau. Chambéry, 1786. In-8 (195 x 117 mm) of an engraved frontispiece portrait after Braer, 2 ff.n.ch., XX, 4, 258 pp., 2 ff.n.ch.; spotted calf, spine ribbed, red edges (contemporary binding). Counterfeit published in the year of the original edition. Claude Anet (1706-1734) was the gardener and then lover of Madame de Warens. It was he who introduced Rousseau to botany and supplanted him in the heart of the lady. This work wants to rehabilitate the memory of Madame de Warens, scratched in the Confessions of J.J. Rousseau. This one, indeed, did not forgive him for having abandoned her for another. Good copy, complete of the engraved portrait.
