« Fréart's Parallèle could not be ignored by later architectural theorists. His comparative method was adopted in many later treatises, including such major works as François Blondel's Cours. It was republished four times in French and received four English editions in a translation by John Evelyn. Fréart's interest in abstract principles, universal laws, and their connection with beauty and geometry suggests neoclassical developments in the eighteenth century, as does his insistance on a set of underlying principles applicable to all the arts. Even his method of illustration, with line drawings showing abstract sections, looks forward to the illustrations of the eighteenth century » (Wilbenson & Baines, The Mark J. Millard Architectural Collection, nº 76). Reliure usagée
