Brabant, Jan I Borman, end of the 15th century Height: 32 cm
(lacks at the edge of the hat)
Work consulted: Exposition Louvain 2019/2020, Borman, A family of

A mortise on the back indicates that this beautiful statuette must have been fixed to an upright of an altarpiece, piece of furniture or woodwork. It is reminiscent of two others, also representing prophets, kept in the collections of the Musée de Cluny and of very similar dimensions that are now attributed to Jan I Borman (inv. Cl.15375 and 15376, fig.a). The folds of the right sleeve, deep, broken and thick, are also very comparable to those formed by the mantle on the Saint John of the Louvain Museum, around 1500, by the hand of Jan I or II Borman (inv. C/32, fig. b).
