SQUELETTE OF APPLICATION in openwork and... - Lot 145 - Pierre Bergé & Associés
SQUELETTE OF APPLICATION in openwork and gilded bronze probably coming from a dance of death. With his head turned to the left, he extends his arms sideways, seemingly inviting someone to dance. 15th century Height: 17.9 cm Width: 11.4 cm (restoration of the right foot, small crack in the column under the rib cage) The theme of the dance of death is particularly widespread in the arts in the 14th and 16th centuries. In a correspondence dating from 1998, Geneviève François, working at the Musée du Moyen Age on the corpus of champlevé enamels, evokes this skeleton "most probably a medieval work".
