Oval PLATE in gilded bronze representing Mucius Scaevola putting his hand in an inferno to prove his bravery in front of King Porsenna. Northern Italy or Florence, Master IO.F.F (Giovan Francesco Furnio da Bologna?) (active at the end of the 15th century), end of the 15th century Height: 5.1 cm - Width: 5.2 cm (hanging hole) This plate was cast in different shapes, circular, slightly ovalized as here, in the shape of a cartouche or surrounded by a frame. The Bargello Museum in Florence keeps several examples showing this diversity (inv. 595 B., 657 B., 658 B., 1696 C.) Works consulted: G. Toderi and F.
