Tristan CORBIÈRE.
Les Amours jaunes. Paris, Glady frères, 1873. In-12 : paperback, printed parchment cover filled. Preserved in a lavaliere half-maroquin folder and case. First edition, printed at 490 copies (nº 69). The frontispiece is illustrated with a self-portrait drawn and engraved by Tristan Corbière. The only collection by Tristan Corbière, who died in 1875 at the age of twenty-nine. It was published at the expense of the poet's father, to whom it is dedicated. The collection went unnoticed until 1884, when Corbière's name was brought out of oblivion by Paul Verlaine, who classified him among the Poètes maudits, alongside Rimbaud and Mallarmé. A fine copy preserved as issued. (Bibliothèque nationale, En français dans le texte, 1990, n° 298: "Les Amours jaunes belong to those years of rupture - 1873, it is also the year of Saison en Enfer and Coffret de santal - which, thanks to the refusal of musical or architectural discourse, thanks to the unexpected prosodic inventions and lexicographic discoveries, founded the poetic modernity of the end of the century.")
