Henri Alban Fournier, dit ALAIN-FOURNIER.
Le Grand Meaulnes. Paris, Émile-Paul Frères, 1913. In-12 : paperback. Preserved in a midnight blue half-maroquin folder, slipcase. First edition: the date of the printing ("9-13") is of the first printing. One of the first 10 copies on Japan paper (no. 5). Alain-Fournier (1886-1914), a literary journalist and then secretary to Claude Casimir-Périer, was virtually unknown when his novel appeared. Until then, he had only published a few essays and stories in magazines. The writer was to be killed among the first combatants, in September 1914, ten days after the death on the front of his "big brother" Charles Péguy, who had contributed so much to the promotion of the work for the Goncourt prize. Perfect copy.
