Guillaume APOLLINAIRE. André Salmon. Sans lieu ni date [1908].
Autograph manuscript signed "Guillaume Apollinaire", 18 pages on 18 leaves in-4 mounted on tabs: red half-maroquin with long grain and bands, smooth spine (Semet et Plumelle). Autograph manuscript signed: a greeting to a fellow traveller which takes on the appearance of a poetic manifesto. The text appeared in Vers et Prose, the journal founded in 1905 by Paul Fort, in the June-August 1908 issue. "This article is not only an act of friendship towards the companion he met in 1903 at the Soirées de La Plume; it also allows Apollinaire to express some of his ideas on poetry and the marvellous" (OEuvres en prose complètes, Bibliothèque de la Pléiade, p. 1713). Beautiful manuscript on water-green paper, some leaves folded and folded over, bearing corrections and additions as well as typographical remarks in red ink. A portrait of André Salmon has been bound in at the head; original drawing signed by Léopold Survage. Large pencil portrait on a sheet taken from a spiral notebook (210 x 135 mm) In an article published in Paris-Journal on July 15, 1914, Apollinaire paid tribute to the man who was still called Léopold Sturwage and his invention of "coloured rhythm": "There is no doubt that the name of Léopold Sturwage, to whom we owe a new muse, will soon become famous.
