Louis ARAGON.
A wave of dreams. Paris, [1924]. In-4, paperback. Rare first edition: an offprint in a small number of the number 2 of the journal Commerce. Aragon here gives surrealism its first manifesto, very shortly before the publication of André Breton's Manifesto. His text ends with the emblematic call, "Faites entrer l'infini." (Vlasie in Dictionnaire Aragon, II, 2019, p. 976: "Published in the journal Commerce in the fall of 1924, this text marks the official birth of the Surrealist movement, like Breton's Manifesto of Surrealism [...]. The two texts were written in parallel and were the result of a joint project between Soupault, Breton and Aragon, which was to be called Lettre à l'Aurore (Letter to the Dawn), but which never came about. Both were published in October of the same year, but the writing of Une vague de rêves seems to have been completed more quickly [...]. In this sense, if this work seems neglected or minimized by critics in comparison with Breton's manifesto, its importance remains major in the foundation of surrealism.") Important autograph dispatch signed: To Jacques-André Boiffard, shhh! he walks around, he thinks with his eyes, he smiles, it's daytime: you are my friend of the clear and cold days, your absent and faithful friend Louis Aragon Remarkable provenance of Jacques-André Boiffard who "thinks with his eyes": Jacques-André Boiffard (1903-1961) joined the Surrealist group with his friends Naville and Gérard, and was to contribute a few texts to the Surrealist Revolution. He was one of the few who "made an act of absolute Surrealism", as listed by André Breton in the Manifesto. As a photographer, he participated with Man Ray in the illustration of Nadja. He will later get closer to Bataille and the magazine Documents. Spine slightly damaged. "Faites entrer l' infini"
