Louis ARAGON.
La Grande Gaîté. With 2 drawings by Yves Tanguy. Paris, Librairie Gallimard, 1929. Small in-4 : grey-beige box, smooth spine, large mosaic decoration on the boards of box in four tones, grey-blue, orange, water green and burgundy, fawn velvet lining and endpapers set with a burgundy box strip, gilt edges on witnesses, cover and spine preserved, folder, slipcase (Paul Bonet, 1969) First edition: illustrated with two compositions by Yves Tanguy, reproduced on tinted laid paper and mounted outside the text. One of the first 6 copies on Japan paper (no. V). Important collection of poems marking a first move away from the Surrealist group. "This zutic poetry mixes free verse and song, excessive lyricism and obscenity. Satire, still largely indebted to Dadaist provocations, acquires here a new radicality" (F. Mahot Boudias, Dictionnaire Aragon, p. 391). Two beautiful original drawings signed by Yves Tanguy, pencil and black charcoal, have been mounted at the head of the book. Superb personal copy of Paul Bonet, bound by him in 1969, with large mosaic decoration and his name in gilt letters on the edge of the lining. The copy was included in the catalogue of his library dispersed in 1970 (no. 24). In his preface, the bookbinder states: "My library is made up of books that I bought because I loved them and I bound them to thank them for the joy they gave me. (Bonet, Carnets, nº 1658: one of only two bindings executed by Bonet on this work).
