Louis ARAGON.
Persecuted Persecutor. Paris, Éditions surréalistes, 1931. In-4, paperback, red paper cover. First edition. One of 30 copies on hollande (nº 36), second large paper after 15 japon. The inaugural poem, Front rouge, was the source of a lively polemic, with Aragon being charged by the authorities. Defended by the Surrealists in a leaflet entitled L'Affaire Aragon, the poet was to distance himself from them for good shortly afterwards. "With Persecuted Persecutor, Aragon made the choice of a violently political poetry, a poetry of action, trumpeting and pamphleteering, macabre and comic, in the tradition of La Grande Gaîté, but always mixed with a melancholic melody" (Dictionary Aragon, p. 743). The copy is complete with the erratum. Spine unstained.
