Samuel BECKETT.
The Issue. Six original engravings by Arikha. Paris, Éditions Georges Visat, 1968. In-4 : red half-maroquin with small corners, smooth spine decorated, untrimmed, gilt head, cover and spine preserved, case (Pierre-Lucien Martin, 1971). First edition: limited edition of 154 copies on large Rives vellum (no. 92). 6 original etchings by Avigdor Arikha printed outside the text, all signed. A French-Israeli painter, engraver and art historian born in Romania, Avigdor Arikha (1929-2010) moved to Paris in the early 1950s. His meeting with Samuel Beckett in 1956 at the Hébertot theatre after a performance of Waiting for Godot was decisive; they were to remain very close until the author's death in 1989. Arikha's engraved work is concentrated for the most part on ten years, from 1965 to 1976, and was interrupted for a long time until 2003. The Bibliothèque nationale de France devoted a retrospective exhibition to him in 2008 on the occasion of a donation from the artist. Elegant binding by Pierre-Lucien Martin. From the Henri Paricaud library, with ex-libris.
