Hans BELLMER.
Petite Anatomie de l'inconscient physique ou l'Anatomie de l'image. Paris, Le Terrain vague, 1957. In-4: paperback, black Ingres paper cover, filled and muffled. Original edition: it is decorated with an engraving by Bellmer on the frontispiece and drawings reproduced in the text. One of 950 copies on Marais snow paper (no. 1). Two autograph letters signed by Bellmer to the publisher Losfeld about the Petite Anatomie are enclosed. The first, addressed on December 26, 1957 from Ermenonville, refers to the manufacture and marketing of the deluxe copies: "In despair and, it must be said, at the end of my patience, I finally withdrew my 21 copies from the bookbinder's, Mr. Masure, while at the same time having my monogram put on the covers, at my own expense. - but, unfortunately, the slipcases were not supplied to me; it seems that we could not find black Papier-Ingres this month. [...] Please let me know when your copies will be finished and when I can have my 21 slipcases! Would you please tell me also the scale prices [sic] of the different luxury copies. - The large sheet of "under-subscription" that you had printed about a year ago, seems to me to be a little muddy, composed at random. It even mentions I don't know how many "dry points"! (You know very well that I don't do drypoints!) In order to recover my fees, I have to start selling my copies. Bellmer finally asks for a press review, of "overflowing quantity", concerning his work (4 pages in-8). Clearly, the production deadlines were far beyond the prospects of December - the second letter, dated June 24, 1958, inviting the publisher to sign and number the copies and to fix the selling price (1 page in-8).
