It is illustrated with 10 full-page compositions by Max Ernst, including the coloured frontispiece.
The cover also bears the reproduction of a collage on a paste-up.
Limited edition of 350 copies: copy no. 234 on glossy paper.
First book produced jointly by Paul Eluard and Max Ernst: "By a curious phenomenon of osmosis and mimicry, the two artists managed to give exact plastic (eleven collages) and poetic (forty-nine poems) equivalents of the same intangible data. One cannot speak of "illustrations" or "legends", even less of Repetitions, but rather of miraculous correspondences" (Michel Sanouillet, Dada in Paris, p. 363).
