A Moral Lesson. 1949. Corrected typescript with autograph leaves of 66 pages, mounted in a large in-4 volume: green percale à la Bradel. Important annotated and corrected typescript, including entirely autograph parts as well as a few printed pages, cut out and annotated by the poet, forming the complete working document of the collection. A Lesson in Morals appeared in 1949 with Gallimard Editions, shortly after Nusch's death. (See next issue.) In total, the collection contains 47 typewritten pages, 8 ½ autograph pages, 3 autograph title sheets, 8 laminated printed sheets. Attached is an original photograph of a young woman, nude, full-length (silver print, 135 x 85 mm). On the reverse, handwritten annotation signed: "L' habit ne fait pas le moine. I love you, Diane." And, at the foot, the notation: "Vienna." Rare portrait of trapeze artist Diane Dériaz (1926-2013), friend of Olivier Larronde and Roland Penrose. She published a memoir under the title: La Tête à l'envers, souvenirs d'une trapéziste chez les poètes, with a preface by Lawrence Durrell (Paris, 1988). Eluard, who was under her spell, said of her, "I am in love with a traveller, she has her sun, I do not have mine." Provenance: Daniel Filipacchi (I, 2004, no. 108).
