César MORO.
Hommage à André Breton. Paris, June 1932. Autograph manuscript signed, 4 leaves in-4 on blue laid paper. Famous autograph poem signed. André Breton, who considered it "perfect", "kept the manuscript until his death" (Henri Béhar). A Peruvian painter and poet, César Moro (1903-1956) met Breton in 1925, when he came to Paris to practice dance. He decided to devote himself to poetry and joined the Surrealist group, collaborating with Surrealism in the service of the Revolution. In exile in Mexico from 1938 onwards, he organised the International Surrealist Exhibition with the painter Wolfgang Paalen in January-February 1940. However, he was to distance himself from Breton, whose evolution he did not appreciate, nor the positions on love set out in Arcane 17. From the André Breton collection (42 rue Fontaine, 2003, no. 2177). (Getty Foundation, Farewell to Surrealism: The Dyn Circle in Mexico : "A central figure in the circulation of avant-garde ideas and aesthetics from the 1920s through the 1950s.")
