Benjamin PÉRET.
Collection of three autograph manuscripts: Il était une boulangère... 16 pages; The Forgotten Face. 11 pages; Les Vêtements dangereux. Pantomime. 5 pages. No place or date [ca. 1924]. 3 manuscripts mounted on tabs and assembled in a volume in-4 : marbled paper boards à la Bradel (slightly later binding). Exceptional collection of three autograph manuscripts of the first draft, abundantly corrected, the second bearing an autograph dispatch signed to Gala Eluard. A. Il était une boulangère. Corrected manuscript offering a few variants with the edition printed in 1925 by Simon Kra (cf. following nº). In the frontispiece of the latter, the publisher has reproduced a page from the author's final manuscript which has nothing to do with this first draft. B. Le Visage oublié. Manuscript of an apparently unpublished play, on water-green ruled paper, like the following one. It bears the following autograph dispatch at the head: To Gala Eluard/or to discover the/symptoms of the fi èvre/of vegetables / Benjamin Péret. C. Les Vêtements dangereux. Pantomime. Manuscript of an unpublished pantomime, on water-green ruled paper, like the previous one: they were both written at the same time, in the 1920s. The binding, a simple marbled paper binding with only the first title on the spine, was executed in the 1930s: the beautiful brightly coloured marbled paper used for the linings and endpapers is reminiscent of the ones used for the bindings of Paul Eluard's library. From the library of René Gaffé (1956, no. 186).
