Gisèle PRASSINOS.
La Sauterelle arthritique. With a preface by Paul Eluard and a photograph by Man Ray. Paris, GLM, 1935. In-8: half black morocco à la Bradel, smooth spine, stenciled paper boards with, on the first board, two Ls intertwined with white paint depicting a grasshopper, entirely untrimmed, cover and spine kept (Mercher). First edition: it is adorned on the frontispiece with a laminated mock photograph by Man Ray showing Gisèle Prassinos reading in front of her brother, Jean-Mario, and André Breton, Henri Parisot, Paul Eluard, Benjamin Péret, René Char. Paul Eluard's famous preface salutes the fifteen-year-old prodigy: "From the nursery rhyme that opens this too-small collection to the haughty letter that ends it, a fairy tale flutters among the strange charms of a twilight naturalism. For Gisèle Prassinos, this enchantment is a daily occurrence. For more than a year, she has devoted her schoolgirl leisure time to it and has written a quantity of texts, all different, all wonderful." One of 25 head copies on normandy stained vellum (no. 8). Traces of glue on the frontispiece photo. (Coron, Les Éditions GLM, bibliography, 1981, nº 57.)
