Cheeks on Fire. Old and unpublished poems 1917-1921. Preceded by a portrait by Pablo Picasso and a poem by Max Jacob and a foreword by the author. Paris, Bernard Grasset, 1925. In-12 : paperback. Partly first edition. Beautiful portrait-frontispice of Raymond Radiguet, lithographed by Picasso. (Goeppert & Cramer. Pablo Picasso. Catalogue raisonné des livres illustrés, 1983, no. 12.) One of the 24 first copies on China paper, this one one of the 4 hors commerce not mentioned in the justification (no. 3), including a second proof of the portrait on Japan paper. Poems written between the ages of fourteen and eighteen, in the author's own words: "The natural expression of a mixture of modesty, of secrecy peculiar to the age at which they were written" (Foreword, p. 12). An autograph letter signed by the author to his father on the letterhead of the Mitre Hotel in Oxford is enclosed. Raymond Radiguet is in Oxford, "a superb city": he has asked Grasset to send him 1,500 francs so that his father can reimburse his aunt and send him some money to return to Paris. Some spotting.
