Né en 1967, Taiyo Matsumoto est surtout connu pour ses mangas publiés chez Shogakukan, une maison rivale des éditions Kodansha. Tekkonkinkreet, Ping Pong et Number Five n'en sont que quelques exemples. Acclamés par les critiques pour leur style non conformiste, ses mangas Ping Pong et Aoi Haru ont été adaptés au grand écran, et Tekkonkinkreet a été transformé en film d'animation par le studio 4°C. En 2007, il a reçu le prix de l'excellence du Japan Media Arts Festival, pour son manga Takemitsu Zamurai. Born 1967, is best known for his works with Kodansha's rival publisher Shogakukan, including Tekkonkinkreet, Ping Pong and Number Five. He has received critical praise for his unconventional art style. Ping Pong and Aoi Haru have been adapted into live-action feature films, and acclaimed animation studio Studio 4??C adapted Tekkonkinkreet into an animated feature film. In 2007 he received an Excellence Award for manga at the Japan Media Arts Festival for the art of Takemitsu Zamurai.
