Anatomical mannequin of a woman pregnant with twins in carved ivory with traces of red highlights. Young woman lying down with articulated arms, one of which is folded, and slightly bent legs; face with open forehead, closed eyes; hair partly held in a bun with strands resting on the shoulders. Once the arms are raised, the front of the trunk is removable with ribs and sternum on the reverse side; the interior contains the vital organs including the heart, kidneys, liver, lungs and intestine, as well as one of the two foetuses in the pockets. It is lying on its original bed, the head resting on a pillow bordered with lace; bed covered with velvet decorated with guipures. Southern Germany, Nuremberg, workshop of Stephan Zick (1639- 1715), circa 1680 Length: 15.4 cm - Total length: 23.5 cm - Total width: 7.9 cm - Gross weight: 268 g (some missing, including one of the two fetuses) Zick's mannequins of pregnant women carrying twins are very rare.
