Grand-père de l'écrivain 5 lettres autographes signées, 18 pages in-8 ou in-4; White Sulphur Springs, Savannah, The Lawn, Gainesville et Old Orchard, 1867-1881. Un en-tête. Trois belles lettres adressées à son fils Edward Green (1853-1927), père de Julien, et deux autres le concernant. La première lettre, datée du 3 août 1867, a pour destinataire son grand ami Edward Moon, de Liverpool. Charles Green lui fait part de la situation politique et économique du moment puis l'informe qu'il compte parmi ses voisins le héros sudiste Robert Lee et sa famille, ainsi que «... Mr Corcoran, the Banker, Mr GARRETT of the Baltimore and Ohio Rail Road (the american stockowner) and about half the professors from the different Southern Colleges and Universities. So that we have what may be called good company a small sprinkling of which are from the Northern and Eastern States. Yankees in fact, and it has been the daily solicitude of our good General [Lee] greater in his misfortunes than ever before !...». Et, plus loin: «... the Singularly small debt of the State of Georgia and the consequent solidity of her Banks is commented upons in the recent N. Y. money articles...», etc. Quelques années plus tard, en 1880, Charles Green annonce à M. Coffin la mort de son grand ami, «... my distinguished friend Mr Edward Moon, of Liverpool, who, in spite of a lapse in our correspondance during the war...», était intervenu financièrement pour sauver ses intérêts. Les trois lettres de Charles Green à son fils Edward sont datées de 1873, 1874 et 1881. En 1873, Charles répond dans une même missive, rédigée sur un papier de la «Savannah Bank and Trust Company», à plusieurs lettres de son fils Edward («dear Eddie»). Il lui rappelle la phrase de Shakespeare («The Engineer - Hoist by his own petard» !), puis l'entretient à propos de ses affaires: «... Our Spanish business, which commenced this season so prosperously, has received a back-set, by the overthrow of the Government and the political disorder
