Victor Hugo and Juliette Drouet after unpublished letters from Juliette Drouet to Victor Hugo and with a selection of these letters. Unpublished drawings by Victor Hugo, Pradier, Gavarni, etc. Paris, Auguste Blaizot, 1914. Large and heavy in-8: red morocco, four-ribbed spine, gilt fillets on the edges and inside, red silk lining and endpapers, untrimmed, gilt head, cover and spine retained (Franz). First edition. One of 100 copies reprinted in octavo format on Arches wove paper (no. 55). Autograph signed on the false title: to Madame Louis Icart jolie vestale du Temple de Juliette, to Louis Icart, their friend Louis Gimbaud December 2, 1929 Unique copy enriched with 23 original drawings by Louis Icart, most of them watercoloured. 13 ink drawings, most of them watercoloured, in the margins of pages 22, 23, 56, 57, 84, 85, 128, 129, 158, 159, 183, 229 and 255. There are also ten full- or double-page drawings inserted, some watercoloured, others in graphite. Various documents related to the history of Juliette Drouet have also been bound into the copy, including one of her letters annotated on the verso by Victor Hugo; a linen note in Juliette Drouet's hand, two chips by Victor Hugo, etc. Finally, a few letters addressed to Fanny Icart and a pretty autograph letter from Juliette Drouet to Victor Hugo decorated with a bouquet of dried flowers are included at the end.
