Complete set of nine scores illustrated by Pierre Bonnard, for six of them, and Alfred Jarry, for the other three. The set also includes the rare separate double sheet offering the Chanson du décervelage (song only). These songs of Ubu, by Alfred Jarry and Franc-Nohain, were set to music by Claude Terrasse. They were performed at the Théâtre des Pantins created by the three companions. "It was in Claude Terrasse's studio that the Théâtre des Pantins opened in December 1897. The theatre, decorated by Bonnard and Vuillard among others, could hold 300 spectators. Jarry built and operated the "machinery". Ubu Roi was performed there, as well as Vive la France by Franc-Nohain, for which Terrasse composed the music - the show was banned by the censors" (Édouard Graham, Passages d'encre, 2008, p. 502). Pierre Bonnard also designed the costumes for the puppets; he was Claude Terrasse's brother-in-law. Beautiful copy bound by Marot-Rodde around 1920.
