BÉRANGER (Pierre-Jean de).
Chansons anciennes, nouvelles et inédites, avec des vignettes de Devéria et des dessins coloriés d'Henri Monnier. Followed by the lawsuits brought against the author. Paris, Baudouin frères, 1828. Two volumes in-8, half red morocco with corners, spines richly decorated throughout, untrimmed, green covers illustrated with delivery (Mercier sr de Cuzin). First edition of this work "rightly sought after for the originality of Monnier's lithographs and the printing of the text" (Carteret, III, p. 72). It is decorated with forty original lithographs by Henry Monnier coloured with a brush, a very rare complete suite. 97 woodcut culs-de-lampe by Thompson after Devéria, from the 1827 edition, complete the illustration. Exceptional copy enriched with: - The complete set of the ten delivery covers under which the volume was published (no general cover was printed). These covers are decorated with vignettes on both sides, different on each of the upper boards. - An autograph letter from Béranger (three pages in-8), addressed to Paul-François Dubois, one of the founders of the Saint-Simonian newspaper Le Globe. - A portrait of Béranger engraved on steel by Lefèvre. - A handwritten copy of three songs on loose leaves. From the library of Antoine Vautier, with ex-libris and a pencil notation of collation.
