BLANC (François, dit La Goutte).
Poetry in Dauphiné patois. Grenoblo Malhérou. Preface by George Sand. Grenoble, Rahoult et Dardelet, 1864 - Poésies en patois du Dauphiné. Preface and glossary by Michal-Ladichère. Grenoble Rahoult et Dardelet, Baratier frères et Dardelet, 1874 - Poésies en patois du Dauphiné. Jacquety de Le Comare. Grenoble, Rahoult et Dardelet, Baratier frères et Dardelet, 1874. Together three works in one volume in-4, red half-maroquin with corners, spine ribbed and decorated, untrimmed, gilt head, illustrated cover and spine preserved (E. and A. Maylander). Complete collection of poems in Dauphinois patois by the Grenoble grocer François Blanc, known as La Goutte (1662 - 1742), "a cheerful and resigned martyr in the midst of the excruciating pains of a continual gout, [who] preserved, like Scarron, the salt of the Gallic spirit; but, more chaste and more sensitive than the author of the Roman comique, he sang above all the disasters of his country" (George Sand, preface). The original edition is of 1733. The collection contains the Grenoblo Malhérou, the Coupi de la lettra written by Blanc dit la Goutta to one of sou-z-alis on the subject of the flood arrived at Garnoblo the day before S. Thomas 20 December 1740, complement of the preceding text, and Jacquety de le Comare. This last piece is unknown to Carteret and Vicaire; its pagination is continuous with that of the preceding piece. The illustration, in first printing, includes three title-frontispieces, one for each piece and more than 150 vignettes in the text, all wood-engraved by Dardelet after Diodore Rahoult. A very fine and scarce copy on large paper, large in-4, enriched with an original pencil drawing, window-mounted on passe-partout, for the frontispiece of the Coupi de la lettra and five delivery covers. The general covers preserved for the whole are those of the first work. From the library of Cécile Eluard with ex-libris.
