MONNIER (Henry). The moral in action of the Fables of La Fontaine. Collection of vignettes drawn by Henri [sic] Monnier and engraved by Thompson. Paris, chez les marchands de nouveautés, 1828 - [1830]. Half green long-grained morocco with corners, spine ribbed and decorated, untrimmed, corn cover preserved (V. Champs). First edition. 16 woodcut vignettes by Henry Monnier, each accompanied by verses from a fable by La Fontaine. This rare suite was published in four issues under covers, each containing four vignettes, without title or general cover. One of the very rare copies printed on large Hollande vellum paper under the cover of the first issue of maize with the date of 1828 and the address "chez les marchands de nouveautés" (cf. Carteret, III, p. 415). A perfect copy, with all margins. From the library of Victor Mercier with bookplate, collation note and pencil note in his hand: "copy on strong paper with the date of 1828".
