Enamel cup painted in grisaille and pink for the complexions with gold highlights on a midnight blue or black background representing the fight between Hector and Paris from an engraving by François Desprez from the History of the Trojan War (Paris, 1562-1583, fig.). On the left, the two brothers confront each other by seizing each other in front of Priam and his wife Hecuba, seated on the right, in an architectural decor with columns and drapery, surrounded by their retinue; in the foreground, a dog lying down, a phylactery bearing the names of the heroes HECTOR - PARIS and a cartouche with the inscription LE ROY PRIAM ET LA ROYNE - HECVBA AVEC LEVR - NOBLESSE; in the background, three tents on a background of trees with a group of characters and a soldier. Reverse side with mirror decoration of sheathed heads flanked by two fantastic winged creatures; foot decorated with laurel garlands punctuated with helmets and rondaches. Limoges, attributed to Jean Miette, circa 1570 Height: 12.3 cm - Diameter: 21.7 cm (restorations) No other painted enamel pieces with scenes from the History of the Trojan War series illustrated by Desprez have been found in Limoges' work. Fabienne Audebrand in her essay on Jean Miette also mentions only three other bowls by this artist, a covered bowl in Brunswick in the Herzog Anton Ulrich Museum, a standing bowl in the Taft Museum in Cincinnati and a bowl in the British Museum in London (inv. 1855,0625.19) Book consulted: F.
