Silver box embossed and engraved. Decorated with horns of plenty, pea pods and foliate scrolls in a symmetrical manner; in the centre of the lid, back and sides, profile busts of men, one helmeted, the other wearing a Renaissance headdress, and of women, the collar rising and the hair raised, clasped in a veil; Lid with doucine with table decorated with a medallion held by a couple with bare bust, the body in foliage ending with a leonine head, surround with draperies, flowers and fleurons. Hasp lock with humpbacked palastre. Traces of hallmark. Box: Spain, third third of the 16th century Mounting: Hispanic colonies of Latin America? end of the 16th century Height: 15 cm - Length: 25,2 cm - Depth: 12,7 cm - Weight: 1232 g The ornamental themes of this box refer to the Renaissance as indicated by the fashionable clothing of the profiles represented; helmet in the Italian style of the Quattrocento, feathered hat and high collars from which a small burr is protruding, typical of the middle of the 16th century. The hinges and the humpback lock, of a very rough workmanship, were obviously added. It is likely that this case was made in the Iberian Peninsula and then sent to the Latin American colonies to be assembled by a local craftsman.
