American federal eagle of flagging in finely chiselled wood, head turned to the right. It is made in several parts, its golden patina is present at more than 60%. It holds in its talons a bundle of twigs. Some missing feathers. Wings deployed, and slightly curved, one of which is detached. H_90 cm L_105 cm According to information given by the seller, the property in which was found this piece, located in the Yvelines, hosted the headquarters of Dwight Eisenhower. This would explain the presence of this richly sculpted American federal eagle marking the presence of a leading personality. Indeed, at the end of the Second World War, Eisenhower was General of the Army and Commander-in-Chief of the Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Force . The Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Forces, or SHAEF, was established in September 1944 in Versailles. It was disbanded on July 14, 1945. Our eagle is a historic piece of rare craftsmanship that relates to one of the iconic figures of World War II. Dwight David Eisenhower, nicknamed Ike, was born in Denison, Texas, on October 14, 1890, and died in Washington, D.C. on March 28, 1969. He was the 34th President of the United States from January 20, 1953 to January 20, 1961, and one of the most legendary generals of the United States Army. From the former residence of General Dwight Eisenhower, after the Second World War (n° 23 and 24)
