FRANÇOIS-XAVIER LALANNE (1927-2008)
Mouton de pierre, circa 1985 Epoxy stone and aluminium. Signed on the side of the sheep's face. Epoxy stone and aluminium. Signed on the side of the face. H_88 cm W_98 cm D_40 cm Provenance: - acquired directly from the artist by the current owner in 1985 - private collection François-Xavier Lalanne An exceptional sheep The sheep, a central and recurring subject in the work of François Xavier Lalanne, evokes innocence and awakens the child who sleeps in each of us. Vulnerable, in need of guidance, its image forces us to be tender and sheds light on our part of humanity. The stone sheep takes its place outside; we feel like guardians of this animal that we must both protect and pamper. The material of epoxy concrete was made not without difficulty by Robert Haligon in order to obtain the result desired by the artist. The first ones are made of epoxy concrete and aluminium, particularly appreciated by François Xavier Lalanne. The sheep we are presenting is particularly rare, as only about twenty sheep have been made of aluminium.
