First edition of the French translation of The Sufferings of John Coustos for free-masonry, and for his refusing to turn roman catholic in the inquisition at Lisbon. The three parts are entitled as follows: Curious proceedings of the inquisition of Portugal (pp. 1-88); of the origin of the inquisition (89-182); authentic & proven facts which serve as proofs for the other two parts (182-264). The last part gives details of the lives and tortures endured by people pursued and interrogated by the inquisitors. Small wear, slightly rubbed bindings.
