Reprint of the fourth edition, despite the indication on the title it is thus effectively the 5th edition of this famous work. Complete with its 30 plates, including 15 folding maps and plates of mineralogy, classical mythology, etc. "A more complete edition than the first one, which was only 3 volumes. It deals with all sorts of subjects: subterranean geography, foundations of a new cosmology, volcanoes and earthquakes, Atlantis, famous navigations of the primitive world" (Caillet). The work concludes with a detailed bibliography of all the works consulted. Volume 2 p. LXI/II with small hole (paper defect) touching 3 words, some foxing; bindings rubbed. Provenance: P.
