[DULAURENS, Henri-Joseph]
Les Abus dans les cérémonies et dans les moeurs developed by Mr. L***. Geneva, Pierre Pellet, 1786. In-8 (175 x 102 mm) of 12 pp. (misfigured 14), 320 pp. Jansenist midnight blue morocco, central armoires of the Marquis Du Cambout de Coislin (OHR 619), interior roulette, gilt edges on marble (H. Duru). Missing from Brunet. First edition written by Henri-Joseph Dulaurens, author of licentious novels, also known as 'Compère Mathieu'. "The collection of Abuses, published under the imprint of Henri-Joseph Dulaurens (1719-1793), presents a series of satirical articles and tales in the tradition of those of L'Arretin. It ranges from the ridiculing portrait to the anticlerical parody, passing through the scatological joke, all against a background of philosophical pochad. Never republished since 1793, the original work raises several questions due to its conception and content, notably on the initiative of the publication, the choice of texts, the exact date of publication, the diatribe of the epistle where the integrity of Rousseau is attacked..." (Stéphane Pascau). (Stéphane Pascau). Nice copy, well established by Duru.
