Map of Germany in two attached sheets + borders in six sheets, total dimensions 1.06 x 1.32 m, mounted on period canvasVery rare wall map of Germany and neighboring countries, illustrating the theater of the Seven Years' War or French and Indian War in the United States, which pitted Great Britain against France on several continents and theaters of operation, between 1756 and 1763. It was drawn by Jean de Beaurain, son of the cartographer, Chevalier Jean de Beaurain, and published in 1765. The borders are illustrated with 64 vignettes, plus two movable ones (out of 4), depicting plans of the various sieges and battles of the war between 1756 and 1763, mainly in Germany. In addition, six of them relate events that took place in America and the West Indies: Montcalm's four battles in Canada (4 small plans on the same vignette), a plan of Louisbourg on Île Royale in Canada (now Cape Breton Island), a map of Guadeloupe, a plan of Quebec, a map of Martinique, and a plan of the siege of Fort Moro and Havana. There is also a map of the battle of Saint-Cast in Brittany and a map of Fort Saint-Philippe on the island of Minorca. The map and vignettes have an explanatory text Titles written on the back in ink. Two mobile vignettes are missing. Minor spotting to map, wetness and spotting to vignettes, margins creased with small tears, larger loss to vignette depicting Marburg Castle. The map and the borders are detached from the cloth in places.
