[APOLLINAIRE, Guillaume].
Album-Catalogue of the exhibition André Derain. Opened from October 15 to 21 at the Galerie Paul Guillaume. Paris, Galerie Guillaume, 1916. 4 ff. in-12 booklet [196 x 141] : in sheets, in black morocco spine folder and modern lined case. First edition of the preface by Guillaume Apollinaire: it is accompanied by poems by Blaise Cendrars, Apollinaire himself, Pierre Reverdy, Max Jacob and Fernand Divoire. Rare catalog of the first personal exhibition of André Derain (1880-1954). It took place in October 1916 at the Paul Guillaume gallery: 29 paintings, watercolors, etchings and drawings. The painter was then on the front, under Verdun. The first book published by Guillaume Apollinaire (L'Enchanteur pourrissant, 1909) had strengthened the bonds of admiration with André Derain. The poet recalls in the preface the "juvenile truculence" of the artist, while noting: "Derain's art is now imbued with this expressive grandeur that one could say ancient." A perfectly preserved copy, enriched with the invitation card to the opening of the exhibition. On the top of the first sheet is the autograph signature of Jacqueline Apollinaire.
