Les Mamelles de Tirésias. Surrealist drama in two acts and a prologue. With music by Germaine Albert-Birot. Paris, SIC, 1918. In-8 [193 x 143] of 108 pp, (2) ff. the first blank : paperback. FIRST EDITION OF THIS "SURREALIST DRAMA" PERFORMED FOR THE FIRST TIME ON JUNE 24, 1917 IN PARIS. It is illustrated with seven full-page drawings by Serge Férat, one of which is repeated on the cover. There is also a reproduction of the score by Germaine Albert-Birot for the overture. The painter Serge Férat (1881-1958) designed the sets and costumes; the music was composed by the musician and poet Germaine Albert-Birot (1877-1931), whose husband Pierre Albert-Birot, founder of the magazine SIC in 1916, was the director. This copy is enriched on the first blank page with the autograph signatures of Germaine Albert-Birot, Guillaume Apollinaire, Philippe Soupault and the actress Louise-Marion, interpreter of the roles of Thérèse-Tirésias and the Cartomancienne. The latter is the dedicatee of one of the five poems at the head: "Louise Marion, you were admirable // Inflating your multiple nipples with a brand new spirit." Philippe Soupault played the role of prompter during the only performance. An uncut copy in good condition despite some stains on the cover.
