In-12 narrow [208 x 121] of XVI pp., (1) f., 73 pp. : gray box, boards and spine decorated in the upper and lower thirds with a cork piece and in the central part with a wide strip of white parchment running from both ends of the boards across the spine, decorated on the boards with two gilt fillets crossing diagonally and on the spine with the author's name and title in gilt letters, title in white oeser on the first board, smooth spine, red and blue suede linings and endpapers, triangular piece of white box at the bottom of the linings, bearing the name of the bookbinder and gilder in gilt letters, gilt head, untrimmed, cover and spine preserved, grey box spine folder, slipcase (Rose Adler et Ch. Collet, 1958). First edition. ONE OF THE FIRST 3 NUMBERED COPIES ON CHINA PAPER (N° 2). "These letters are a delightful reading, because it is not only Apollinaire poet that we find there, but also the spiritual chronicler of the anecdotal Life of the Mercure de France" (Marcel Adéma). Exquisite decorated binding by Rose Adler (1890-1959). It was executed a few months before her death. Commissioned by Emile Sabatier, it was included in the posthumous retrospective exhibition that took place at the Mazarine Gallery the same year of her death (Exhibition of the Société de la reliure originale, Bibliothèque nationale, 1959, no. 209). Provenance: Emile Sabatier - Daniel Filipacchi (Christie's sale, April 29, 2004, no. 23). Spine of the folder faded.
