Mort à crédit. Paris, Denoël et Steele, [1936]. In-8 [217 x 142] of 697 pp, (1) blank : black half-maroquin, smooth spine, gilt head, cover and spine preserved (Semet et Plumelle). First edition. ONE OF THE 47 FIRST COPIES ON JAPAN, THIS ONE BEING ONE OF 25 PUT IN THE MARKET (Nº 1). As indicated at the head of the book: "At the request of the publishers, L.-F. Céline has deleted several sentences from his book, the sentences have not been replaced. They appear in white in the book." Precious copy of the Belgian journalist, collector and art critic René Gaffé, who entrusted it to Semet and Plumelle at the time. It is enriched at the head with three portraits of the author (one after Ciri, one after Gen Paul and an unpublished photographic snapshot dated 1935), and an autograph letter from the author, of one page in-4, announcing in particular to a friend that : "Finally the title of the next one is 'Mort à crédit'." Damage to the binding Bound in suite: Robert Denoël, Apologie de Mort à crédit suivie de Hommage à Émile Zola P ar Louis-Ferdinand Céline, Paris, 1936. One of the 20 copies on Montgolfier laid paper, and not vellum pur fil as indicated in the justification, the only one on large paper, this one bearing the n° 1 and enriched with this mailing from Denoël on the title: To Mr. René Gaffé, // who does not need this // apology, // in sympathetic homage, // Robert Denoël A perfectly preserved copy, complete with the covers and spines of both books.
