First edition: it is illustrated with a portrait of the author by
Eugène Maccown, woodcut by G. Aubert.
The novel is one of the symptoms of "this new disease of the century", diagnosed by Marcel Arland. René Crevel (1900-1935) reveals his obsessions and his penchant for suicide.
